VENTUS AUSTRALIS LAUNCHED

Ventus Australis navigated the Patagonian channels for the first time on January 2nd.

A similar ship to the renowned Stella Australis in terms of size and capacity (210 passengers), with a renewed concept in interior design and the exceptional service that characterises Australis cruises on its voyages through the main attractions of Tierra del Fuego. Its journey starts with the “Tierra del Fuego Fjords” route, a navigation of four nights between Punta Arenas and Ushuaia.

In the opposite direction, “Explorers of Patagonia” is a four night trip from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas. Passengers can also go on a full expedition or round trip called “Darwin’s Route”, an eight night journey departing either from Punta Arenas or Ushuaia. Disembarking at some places and sailing on zodiac boats in others, the routes cover the main points of interest in Tierra del Fuego, the Magellan Strait, Beagle Channel, reaching Cape Horn, Pía and Águila glaciers, and the Alberto de Agostini National Park, located in the Darwin range.

Along with the impressive geography, throughout the trip travelers can observe native forests and exotic local flora and fauna, with species such as sea lions, Magellanic penguins, and Peale’s dolphins, among others. Ventus Australis’ “Explorers of Patagonia” includes an excursion on Zodiac boats to the Cóndor glacier. This glacier has rarely been seen and becomes a new natural landmark of Australis’ 2017-2018 season.

Ventus Australis was especially designed to navigate through the southernmost channels of South America. Its various features, including its length, beam, and engine power, allow for the maneuverability needed to sail across the narrow channels and fjords that no other cruises can explore. Additionally, there is a program that complements the cruise experience with a land excursion across Tierra del Fuego, which includes a stop at colony of King Penguins and a walk around the local ranches. All the excursions are led by guides who are experts in the local geography, glaciology, flora and fauna. Excursions including disembarkation end with a comforting cup of Magellanic hot chocolate.

ATP BACKS MULTIGENERATIONAL TRIPS

Why is Buenos Aires such a popular destination for families with children? Firstly, Buenos Aires is cosmopolitan and fun. It has the face and the flavour of Europe, elegant cafés, beautiful architecture and approximately one hundred museums, most of which are child-friendly, but its heart and soul beat to a Latin rhythm, lively and frenetic.Secondly, kids reign in Argentina. They are welcome everywhere (except nightclubs).

Even the most sophisticated restaurants have high chairs and child menus and it is usual to see children in a restaurant at 11 pm having dinner with their parents. There are also multiple activities suitable for all ages.  In and around Buenos Aires there cooking lessons, filete painting, horse riding, bicycle tours, dinosaurs(!) at the Natural Science Museum, space exploration at the  Planetarium, and the Forbidden Not To Touch Science Museum.

You can take a polo lesson, visit a ranch or explore an island in the Tigre Delta by boat.Children can go grape harvesting in Mendoza whilst their parents do a wine tasting, or get up close and personal with whales in Puerto Madryn with a trip on a Yellow Submarine, walk among penguins, explore the Iguazu Falls, go fishing or kayaking in Bariloche, or ride through hills for a swim under a waterfall in Los Potreros ranch in Cordoba.

“I am delighted to have joined Americas, a company I have long respected, and which I first got to know over ten years ago. Over the years I have worked for several small and medium sized tour operators, but developed my passion for Latin America while working for Sunvil Traveller in Isleworth. Since then I have worked as a Product Manager for Explore Worldwide, and become part of the team for the LATA Foundation. I am really looking forward to my new role within the Americas partnership, and to getting to know you all over the coming months.  WTM is not far away now, so I will see many of you there!”
