San Vicente del Caguán, a city located in the department of Caquetá, was once a hotbed of clashes during the country’s armed conflict. At the start of this tour, you will meet a group of former guerrilla members from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) who chose rafting as their path to social reintegration. These ex-combatants and community members are now athletes and certified rafting guides who will lead you on a life-changing experience that combines adventure, nature and peace teaching. The tour is an example of the inspiring projects that are making positive changes and improvements to many Colombians lives. The tour begins with an air transfer from Bogotá to San Vicente del Caguán (1 1/2hrs), and then a 2-hour road transfer past beautiful jungle scenery to the ETCR “Territorial training and reinstatement space”, where ex-combatants and their families reside.
During this day tour you will have the opportunity to meet locals and enjoy various activities like rafting on the Pato River, learn about the flora and fauna; enjoy a game of tejo (one of Colombia’s most traditional games), taste typical food of the region, visit the productive projects of the community and the local museum of memory. This museum is a space created by ex-combatant women, who have collected objects that the community has preserved since the time of the conflict. Participants will also enjoy a cultural evening, with talks about the history of the city, it’s people and music. Finally, you will return to the airport to go back to your hotel in Bogota.
