Vineyards and stunning scenery in North West Argentina

We love to visit the Argentine Northwest region. For us, it is our most historical and colorful region, where we can explore a land full of contrasts: lovely countryside, quaint adobe native villages, colonial architecture, fine handicrafts, tasty wines, and grand estancias. We can spend several days on the ground, as every day is a great scenic trip. Starting to the south of Salta, with three days of travel visiting the Calchaquí Valleys and their gorges, traversing the region of the highest wineries in the world – a unique experience of culture, perfumes, and human contact that goes beyond the wine theme. Continue to the north of Salta, with three days of travel reaching the desert plateau of the Puna and Salinas Grandes, to then visit the province of Jujuy, the Humahuaca Gorge (Unesco Patrimony of Humanity), and the Yungas Forest route.

One of our favorite scenic road trips is the one to one of the country’s main wine-growing regions and beautiful, serene Calchaquí Valley visiting boutique wineries whilst sighting the contrast of green fertile valleys and wild desert. Cachi, Molinos, Colomé, and Cafayate awaits for us – a land of sunshine and wine, with craft shops, historical churches, grand estancias, colonial architecture, an archaeological museum, and artists (craftsmen) in clay, wood, and weaving and a golf course to fulfill everyone’s interests. It is the center of high-altitude winemaking in Argentina.

Special treats include enjoying lunch at its different wineries and taste and enjoy the freshest and traditional cuisine, with local products like the delicious sun-dried peppers, all perfectly paired with the freshness of the unique Torrontes wine and always framed with the spectacular views of the Calchaqui Valley vineyards and the Andes range.
